I love the physicality of the double bass, its noble immensity, its depth charges and dusty bits.
The sonic range is greater and more complex than many other instruments.
It comes from the soil.
My double bass is a Hawkes Classic made in London in 1904.
It’s a little like playing an octopus, or a hoover, or perhaps the Uilleann Pipes.
It’s especially good for cosmic dolphin songs.
The wind is in there too.
I have a collection of saws now - French, Appalachian, homemade, bass and vintage. The oldest was born in 1920.
I use Tube mics and Neve and Grace preamplifiers and elbow grease.
Everything is powered by the sun and the wind.
An older body of work, covering a range of projects.
